Canopy replacement used in the evaluation of cupuassu tree genotypes in the state of Pará Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Alves,Rafael Moysés; Chaves,Saulo Fabrício da Silva; Oliveira,Raimundo Parente de; Pedroza Neto,Jack Loureiro; Sebbenn,Alexandre.
Abstract This study aimed to use the canopy replacement technique to reduce the field evaluation time and to select promising cupuassu tree clones. The study was carried out under field conditions using fifteen-year-old trees. The crowns were replaced using 16 treatments (clones). The experiment was conducted using randomized blocks design with 18 replicates and one plant per plot, during a period of ten years. The following variables were evaluated: average number of fruits, fruit, seed and pulp production (kg/plant) and symptoms of “witches broom” disease. The data were checked for normality followed by analysis of variance. The results highlighted clones 32, 42, 44, 46, 47, 61, 62, 63 and 64, presenting characteristics such as productivity, tolerance...

Spondias mombin and Theobroma grandiflorum in agroforestry system: productivity implications Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Alves,Rafael Moysés; Bastos,Abel Jamir Ribeiro; Chaves,Saulo Fabrício da Silva; Fernandes,José Raimundo Quadros.
Abstract In agroforestry systems, little is known about the influence of the dominant species on that located in the lower layer of the canopy. The aim of this study was to evaluate if S. mombin plants, when in consortium with T. grandiflorum, caused some type of depression in the performance of T. grandiflorum and also to identify the most favorable S. mombin clones for this interaction. The experiment started on February 2005. During 11 years, four levels of influence of S. mombin on T. grandiflorum caused by the proximity between species were evaluated. As response variables, the vegetative development of S. mombin and T. grandiflorum was measured; the production of eight vintages T. grandiflorum trees was computed, and the mortality rate of plants was...
